A very sad day on the 13th of May 2009. Our beloved Sifu Joseph Wang Kiu has passed away this day. One of the true legends of Yip Man Wing Chun, is not with us anymore.
Sifu J. Wang Kiu always had a very low profile, never called himself grandmaster or master, but just a farmer. He taught Wing Chun in a logical and authentic way and never changed a bit of what he had learned from his teacher Yip Man in the 1950’s.
Sifu, may you rest in peace. It’s up to us now. We will not dissapoint you, that’s a promise.
This website is dedicated to the great teacher Sifu J. Wang Kiu. Allready in the early 50’s he started as a private student under the late Grandmaster Yip Man in Hong Kong. Sifu Wang Kiu started his own foundation together with two of his students some years ago and was proud of this foundation: Wang Kiu Wing Chun Foundation
Now, after Sifu Wang Kiu passed away, the teachers of the Wang Kiu Wing Chun Foundation will pass on his knowledge for many generations to come!
According to Tsui Sheung Tin Sifu Wang Kiu is “The Pilar” of the Wing Chun Kung Fu, meaning that the authentic Yip Man Wing Chun Kung Fu is best preserved by Sifu Wang Kiu in all those years.
Tsui Sheung Tin himself was together with Wang Kiu, Wong Shun Leung, Leung Sheung and Lok Yiu one of the core 5 students of grandmaster Yip Man. He’s the only one still living at this moment.
The website wangkiu.nl is part of the official foundation Stichting Wang Kiu Wing Chun which was founded by Sifu Wang Kiu himself and his students Dennis Wetter and Jerome Lam.
Underneath you will find some short video’s of Sifu Wang Kiu performing different aspects of the Wing Chun like he was taught by Grandmaster Yip Man in the 1950’s.
Here’s a small clip of Sifu Wang Kiu performing the first 30 movements of the Mok Yan Chong (wooden dummy). According to Wang Kiu the dummy works are like a mirror. What you do left is what you do right… The dummy works contains 108 movements (just like the Siu Lim Tao and Chum Kiu). 108 is a special number for Chinese people (which comes from the 108 Heroes of China, Legend). In the first years of his learning Yip Man had no Wooden Dummy, so Sifu Wang Kiu first learned the dummy works in an “open hand” method. The combination of those 2 different ways of teaching gave him a big knowledge about the practical idea’s of those dummy works.
Here’s a second clip of Sifu Wang Kiu. In this video you see Sifu Wang Kiu train one of his earliest students in the beginning of her teaching. They perform some Chi Sau exercise in which Sifu Wang Kiu makes 2 different kind of attacks (Pak Sau and Gum Sau). It’s a drill, just to be comfortable with the Chi Sau movements.
In this video from 1982 (UBC, Canada) Sifu Wang Kiu explains about the fact that every movement of Wing Chun must be an attack. There are no defending movements which are not combined with an attack. This is what makes Wing Chun so strong and fast in practical fights.
